Meet the Editorial Board
Michael Shaunessy
Michael Shaunessy is a partner and trial lawyer at McGinnis Lochridge. For more than 30 years, Michael has represented clients in both commercial and employment litigation, including suing and defending governmental entities. Michael is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocacy. He has tried to verdict numerous Texas Tort Claims Act cases and has briefed and argued such cases to various courts of appeals. For more than 20 years, he has written law review articles and CLE articles on sovereign immunity and the Texas Tort Claims Act. He is frequently asked to speak on all aspects of the Texas Tort Claims Act.
Gaines West
Gaines West co-founded West Webb Allbritton & Gentry in 1982. Gaines’s many accomplishments include serving as Chair of the State Bar of Texas, Grievance Oversight Committee (2006-10), Chairman of the State Bar of American Indian Law Section (2001-02, 2003-06, 2009-10), and Vice-Chair of the State Bar of Texas, Council of Chairs (2005-06). He was appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to the Texas Board of Disciplinary Appeals twice and served as a member (1992-2003), Vice Chairman (1994-96, 1998-2000), and Chairman (2001-03). Gaines was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma and is married to Susan West; they have three daughters and eight grandchildren.
S. Scott West
Scott West is the principal of The West Law Firm based in Sugar Land. His experience as a design engineer has helped him successfully prosecute product liability cases for over 31 years across the nation—from California to New York and Illinois to South Texas. He has handled cases involving defective automobiles, aircraft, recreational vehicles, industrial equipment, and consumer products. Further, Scott served on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committees in the General Motors Ignition Switch and Toyota Sudden Unintended Acceleration MDLs. He is Triple Board Certified and AV Preeminent rated by Martindale Hubbell. Over the years, Scott has become well known for giving seminar presentations on expert direct- and cross-examinations, Daubert challenges, and trial strategy.
